About Us
Reflecting the outdoor recreational trend
Price Media, Inc. is a Seattle-based family-owned business specializing in publishing outdoor recreational magazines and guidebooks. Its anchor, Outdoors NW, targets an active outdoors audience in the Seattle and Portland markets monthly.
Founded by publisher Carolyn Price in 1988 during the mountain biking boom, the original magazine was called Puget Sound Cyclist. Within a year, the publication expanded into Portland and changed its name to Northwest Cyclist. In 1992, change came about again when the editorial concept expanded into covering multi-sports and it became Sports Etc magazine.
In November, 2004, Sports Etc evolved into Outdoors NW, reflecting the outdoor recreational trend the Northwest is known for. Over the years, the company has provided top-level journalism and quality photography to the community of Northwest outdoor enthusiasts.
In addition to Outdoors NW, Price Media also publishes the Western Snow Sports Guide, the Cascade Bicycle Club Event and Activity Guide and Therepeutic OUTLOOK magazine. It also publishes custom booklets for many associations and companies.
The other half of Price Media is Carolyn’s brother, Greg. Both are Seattle natives. With an expertise in finance and management, Greg joined the company in 1994 bringing another level of growth and maturity to the company. Greg founded the idea of the company’s famous Sport-BAG Program which provides goody bags and a sampling program to more than 150 events throughout the Northwest. He is also instrumental in building this website. We hope you like it!
Carolyn’s lifelong passions have always been sports and journalism – and she is one of those few women who successfully persevered in choosing a career in sports in the 1970s. With interests in sea kayaking, hiking, camping, bicycling, running, and triathlons, Carolyn is never far away from the outdoors. With over 35 years in community journalism, she has won numerous awards for her writing and photography and was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from Dale Carnegie.
Price Media is a member of the Ski Industries Association, Trade Association of PaddleSports, Washington Newspaper Publisher’s Association, Seattle Advertising Federation. It’s a charitable supporter of the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society of Washington and Team Survivor NW. |
