Help stomp out breast cancer

The Tubbs Romp to Stomp 3K/5K snowshoeing event
From the well-known Susan G. Komen for the Cure comes a fun, feel-good solution to your winter blues. The Tubbs Romp to Stomp 3K/5K snowshoeing event is designed to do what the Komen Race for the Cure does so well in warmer months: empower people, promote well-being, and raise money for breast cancer research.

Never snowshoed before? No sweat; 25 percent of participants have never donned snowshoes until the day of the event. The Northwest hosts two of the seven North American series events in 2010: Feb. 20 at Snoqualmie Pass, Wash., and Feb. 27 at Mt. Hood, OR. www.tubbsromptostomp.com

Cascade Bicycle Club Events
For 36 years, the Chilly Hilly has helped kick off the cycling season in the Northwest. With Bicycling Magazine’s endorsement as “One of Four Classic Rides” in the nation, the 33-mile course circles Bainbridge Island. It climbs 2,675 feet and promises its participants free baked goods, hot cider and a finish-line chili feed to raise money for Bainbridge Island charities and the Squeaky Wheels Bicycling Club. Feb. 28.

Need a bike in time for the Chilly Hilly? One day earlier, the Seattle Bike Swap brings over 100 vendors to Magnuson Park for a day of fantastic deals on new and used bikes, parts, gear, clothing and more. For five bucks, you are welcome to browse and bargain-hunt to your bike-loving heart’s content. Feb. 27, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Magnuson Park Hangar #30

The 2010 Seattle Bike Expo will run March 13 –14. Presented by Raleigh Bicycles, the Expo will take place just three miles from downtown Seattle at Smith Cove Cruise Terminal 91, located at the base of the Magnolia Bridge and readily accessible by bike via the Elliott Bay Trail. Featuring 135,000 square feet of bike gear, cycling presentations, a classic bike show, and free bike fits courtesy of Group Health, the expo is the largest of its kind in the country. www.cascade.org.
