Portland to host USAT Age Group Nationals in ’07, ’08 (0507)


    Hundreds of athletes will descend upon Hagg Lake west of Portland June 30 for the first of two back-to-back United States Triathlon Age Group National Championships. Winners will advance to the ITU World Championships Sept. 1-2 in Hamburg, Germany.


    The 2008 championships will also be decided at Hagg Lake although no date has yet been set.


    Close to 1,000 athletes from all 50 states will compete in the Olympic distances of 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run. The swim is a triangular loop in Hagg Lake, the bike leg consists of two laps around Hagg Lake while the run is an out-and-back route along West Shore Drive and Scoggins Valley Road.


    Although many athletes have already qualified for the championship race, a special qualifier will be held at Hagg Lake May 20. For more information on this race contact

Multisport Youth Programs offered
    The newly launched Emerald City Multisport Team is offering first-ever youth triathlon programs this summer.


    Aimed at youths 10-18, Emerald City will utilize certified USA Triathlon and USA cycling coaches to teach triathlon training, safe techniques and a healthy lifestyle. All participants must be able to swim 100 yards and have access to a bike. The summer schedule will run from June 11-July 26.

Luna Chix hosts women’s tri workouts, clinics

    Professional triathlete Terra Castro will kick off this year’s Team LUNA Chix third season with a Triathlon 101 clinic from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Beacon Hill campus of Pacific Medical Center May 12.


    The event is open to all females and features goal setting, race preparation and nutrition, and interactive sessions covering swim, bike and run.


    Cost for the clinic is $50 with all proceeds going to support the Breast Cancer Fund. For more information, contact LaVonne Finnerud at seattletri@teamlunachix.com

Tim and Nicole DeBoom to speak at REI
    Ironman champions Tim and Nicole DeBoom will talk triathlon at the Seattle REI Flagship store from 6:30 – 9 p.m., May 14. Nicole is launching a new women’s triathlon apparel line called Skirtsports.
