Whether you’re headed there for Shakespeare or singletrack – or both – Ashland, Ore., doesn’t disappoint. Let’s face it: Not many small towns can boast access to extensive trails, excellent restaurants, local wineries and culture – not to mention, Crater Lake and the Oregon Caves, both nearby.
For those who want a Midsummer Night’s Dream but also want a guaranteed good night’s sleep, book a room at the Mount Ashland Inn, located at an elevation of 5,500 feet. Each of the five roomy guest suites includes a spa and gas fireplace. One night at this small bed and breakfast just a few miles south of this southern Oregon town, and you might be hawking your play tickets at the chance to spend a day exploring the Pacific Crest Trail – which happens to go right through the inn’s backyard.
Named as one of the “Top 10 Hotels for Nature Lovers” by Sunset magazine in 2007, the 20-year-old lodge is constructed of cedar, logged from the 40-acre property.
The Mount Ashland Mountain Bike Trail, the beginning of the famous ‘Revenge of the Siskiyou’ mountain bike race, will whip you into shape. If you decide to journey back to town for a show or to bike, run or hike the Lithia Loop, the Mount Ashland Inn will provide a breakfast that will keep you fueled until Happy Hour begins.
