Bicycle Commuting -- Roll into May Celebrating Bike to Work Month

   National Bike to Work Month is upon us. Lube your gears, inflate your tires. National Bike to Work Week starts May 17 and ends with National Bike to Work Day Friday, May 21. Festivities abound up and down the Sound, east to Spokane, and south to Portland. See you on the streets in May!

Bike to Work Week Activities by City
Olympia
    Commute to work by bike Friday, May 21 and swing by one of three Bike Stops between 7 and 9 a.m. to pick up bananas and sports bars, a coupon booklet with discounts to local bike shops, reflective gear and bicycle resources, as well as enter the Intercity Transit’s Bicycle Commuter Contest, www.intercitytransit.com/programs/bicyclecontest/Pages/default.aspx.
Show proof of registration at a Bike Stop to receive a free gift. (Proof of registration includes your mileage log, 2010 BCC t-shirt, or sticker.)


Bike Stops will be located at:
Heritage Park on 5th Avenue, next to Capitol Lake;
Olympia Woodland Trail on Eastside Street at Wheeler Ave.;
Ralph’s Thriftway at 1908 4th Avenue E.


    If you enter the Bicycle Commuter Contest you’ll double your miles on National Bike to Work Day and receive $5 off an Urban Cycling Class, www.decidetoride.org.


Portland
    Bike to Work Day Free Breakfast, May 15, 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Oregon Square, 6th and NE Holliday.


Seattle
    Bike to work Friday, May 21, and stop by one of Cascade Bicycle Club’s 44 Commute Stations from Marysville to Kent. Check out the locations at http://cbcef.org/btw/btw_stations.html and visit one of the locations between 6 and 9 a.m. and register for a free drawing for a Bike to Work prize.


   Bike to Work Day Rally, Friday 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. at Seattle City Hall, 600 4th Ave. and Ballard Avenue next to Bergen Place Park in Ballard.


    Bike to Work Day After-Party, Friday 4 to 7 p.m. in Ballard, 22nd St. NW between Market St. and Ballard Ave.


Snohomish County
    Bike to Work Challenge, Monday, May 17 to June 18
Organize or find a team of four to 10 people and commit to biking to work just one day a week. www.commtrans.org/Programs/BikeToWork.cfm#Challenge


Friday, May 21 Bike to Work Celebration Stations:
    Each station will have fresh scones provided by Great Harvest, the new Bicycling in Snohomish County map, a Bike to Work giveaway, free bike safety checks and a chance to win a new commuter bicycle and other great prizes.


Edmonds Train Station, 6 to 9 a.m., 210 Railroad Ave;
Everett Boeing, 5 to 8:30 a.m., 75th Street SW and Seaway Blvd.;
Everett Station, 5 to 9 a.m., 3201 Smith Ave., south of Pacific Avenue;
Lynnwood Transit Center, 6 to 9 a.m., 202nd Street SW and 46th Ave. W.;
