Enjoy snowshoeing? There are several guided snowshoe trips in Washington’s national parks and forests led by experienced rangers and park interpreters on weekends now through March.
These guided walks offer a unique opportunity to try snowshoeing with little commitment and in safe conditions. Details vary for each location, but, in general, snowshoes are provided, donations ranging from $1 to $10 are requested, and some sort of advance reservation is required.
Hurricane Ridge
Stroll through the snowy Olympics on an outing less than one mile in length. Walks begin at 2 p.m. and last 90 minutes.
Stevens Pass
Two-hour programs for beginner snowshoers age 6 and up start at noon with an indoor slide show at the USFS Guard Station.
Snoqualmie Pass
In addition to frequent 90-minute trips, the rangers at Snoqualmie Pass will also lead half-day outings to Commonwealth Basin, departing from the Visitor Information Center at 9:15 a.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Party sizes are limited and the longer trek requires a higher level of fitness and winter preparedness.
Mt. Rainier National Park
At Rainier, walks start at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. A sign-up sheet is available at the Jackson Visitor Center information desk one hour before each walk, with trips limited to 25 people (ages eight and up) on a first-come, first-served basis
