   Snowboarding is no longer the exclusive domain of the “yo, dude” grungsters with baggy pants and oversize parkas.

    The roles have reversed in recent years with 30-, 40-, and 50-year-olds carving down the slopes on snowboards while their kids look on with resignation.

Sandboarding carves up coastal dunes

   The Oregon dunes are the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in the U.S. and stretch for 50 miles between Florence and Coos Bay along the famous Oregon coast.
    If you’re traveling the coast and have already seen the Sea Lions Caves or built one too many sandcastles you might want to catch the next new wave on the Oregon coast: sandboarding.

   Snowboarding, with its high learning curve and huge fun factor, has grown to include winter athletes of all ages. Many youngsters pick up snowboarding from the start while many downhill skiers have crossed over and now divide their time between the two. If you’re willing to sustain a few bruises your first few days out, you’ll have fun learning how to board.

Open For Winter 11/05

After last year’s disappointing season, most local ski areas are eagerly awaiting Old Man Winter. Last season’s low snow levels and lack of revenue-generating powder days led many area resorts to postpone improvements. Therefore, you won’t see too many major changes to Pacific Northwest resorts.
