Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

October 1, 2015

For the past 12 years, the first Saturday in October is “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.”  The Northwest has many organized events, which are listed below.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association and United States Congress recognized the need to get children more active outdoors and created this day to encourage youth to be physically active.

The day is also in celebration of Jacob Mock Doub, a top national-level downhill mountain bike competitor, who began mountain biking in 1996 at age 11. Beyond riding, his passion was to give other kids the opportunity to learn to ride. He died from a bicycle injury in 2002.

This year, across the United States and in Canada, hundreds of mountain biking organizations and clubs will be sponsoring “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” over the first weekend in October. Many will be multi-activity events, while some will be a specific mountain bike ride. Participation requires registration.
