Run or Wine, a Woodinville 5K and 8K race series, brings together wine lovers for an afternoon of exercise and community building.

Run 2 Be Fit, a local running and coaching company, hosts multiple races for this particular series throughout the year. The event will take place in Woodinville’s Hollywood District at noon on Saturday, Feb. 5.

“The event is not just about running, but about socializing and getting out to meet new people trying out different wines,” said Arnie Martinez, owner of Run 2 Be Fit.

The annual race, which launched in 2014, will start and finish on the Sammamish River Trail, 19510 144th Ave. NE, Woodinville.

Martinez said local favorites like Triplehorn Brewing Co., Patterson Cellars and Locust Cider & Brewing Co. will the fun this year.

He said attendees will receive socks, a finishers medal, free photos, and a drink ticket to one of the participating businesses. Racers can also donate to help plant a tree (in place of receiving a medal) through the National Forest Foundation, he added.

“We try to introduce new runners to the sport of running,” he said. “We found that incorporating wine helped bring people out, and in turn, we can help promote local wineries.”

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association, according to the running company.

In addition to the community building aspect of the race, Martinez said, he hopes the event can bring joy to those who have struggled with their mental health during the pandemic.

“Part of mental health is exercising, getting out of the house to do some fun exercise,” he said.
